Welcome to Matthew Weightman Physiotherapy

My goal is to help you live life without pain, movement limitations, stress and anxiety. I am passionate about providing exceptional hands-on Physiotherapy to assist you to live the life you want to live, feeling your best.

How is Holistic Physiotherapy Different?

Holistic Physiotherapy differs primarily because it considers the whole person. It not only addresses the immediate symptoms, but explores other related areas or factors that may have contributed to the onset or perpetuation of the presenting symptoms. Features include:

  • 60-minute Consults

  • Whole-body Assessment

  • Individualised Treatment

  • Hands-on Physiotherapy

  • Education & Exercise

About me

After completing a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2013, I subsequently trained in the Front to Back Approach, developed by Dr. Aileen Jefferis to treat musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction throughout the body.

In 2016, I began studying Visceral Manipulation with the Barral Institute and CranioSacral Therapy with the Upledger Institute in 2017.

After working with Dr. Jefferis for 7 years in Belair, I relocated my practice to Coast Yoga in 2020. In 2023 I completed my Yoga Teacher Training and took over as Director of Coast Yoga.

I enjoy music, walking with my dog (Neville), Yoga and Martial Arts.

Physiotherapy for Yoga (Hands-On)

Being a practitioner of Iyengar Yoga myself, I understand and enjoy the many health benefits it offers. However, due to injury or compensations that have developed, yoga can at times aggravate our symptoms. Or we may find that our practice has reached a plateau and is no longer progresses as we like. Holistic Physiotherapy, can help to directly release the barriers or restrictions in our bodies that are keeping us from progressing further, as these restrictions usually won't free up on their own (even with stretching and exercise)

Not into Yoga?

Don't worry, the same concept applies to all sports and exercise including anything from functional movements like walking or hanging out the washing to elite sports.

Yoga Informed Rehabilitation (Hands-Off)

Once the initial treatment phase has been completed (pain well managed and normal movement patterns return) it is important to develop new integrated movement patterns (as opposed to prior compensatory movement patterns) on solid foundation of strength, length and neuromuscular control. This involves precise movement re-training incorporating elements of Yoga, Pilates and functional movement to support clients to maximise their health and help prevent relapse. This is provided 1 on 1 in the Yoga Studio and suited to clients who are not yet ready to begin class based or self-directed exercise and clients who need more specialised approach (including complex Neurological or Muskuloskeletal clients (including NDIS).

The Treatment Space

I strive to create a warm, welcoming and inviting space, so that you can feel safe and comfortable.

Introducing Neville.

I adopted Neville in 2019 and he attends the clinic as receptionist and head of Human Resources.

He has a pleasant and friendly nature and is usually found sleeping alongside the treatment table, contributing a relaxing and calming presence to the sessions. Occasionally at the start of a session (when I am standing up),  he may bark to show his excitement (as he thinks it’s walk time) but will quickly settle down once we are seated.

If you have dog allergies or don’t like being around dogs please contact me directly and we can find a solution together.
